John Gruber (daringfireball.net) and Merlin Mann (43folders.com), delivered a talk at SXSW last month on the art of being successful creators and/or custodians of stuff on the Web.
Their message boils down to essentially make good shit; the rest will come. These guys aren’t dispensing hard, practical advice, but the value of their talk is in their desperate appeal to today’s wannabe content creators, begging them to be original and amazing at what they choose to do.
For those of us who have sites and are trying to stand out and get attention, it’s an inspiring hour that might convince you to rearrange your priority list for the better. But if you’re looking for tangible hands-on advice on using Google ads, mastering SEO, or gaining financial independence through affiliate linkage, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
