This weekend, the Spring finally seems to be creeping in around the edges. Ah, Spring…my least favorite season of all. All the slop from the melting snow, all the corpses of leaves and grass that never quite got raked up, and the treacherous mix of ice and water and mud on the sidewalks. It’s the ugliest season out there. But the one benefit is that I’m now able to get out of the house for a bit to take a nice walk around the lake, and it’s warm enough for me to toss Thessaly in the stroller and take her with me.

I still end up with wet shoes, and I put on a little show as I try to navigate the remaining slick patches on the paths, but I feel much better after a good hour of minor physical exertion. Thessaly seems to enjoy it as well. For the first 1/2 hour or so. Then she starts to sing to herself a little bit, and when that gets boring, she starts to appeal to the passers-by for some assistance. But by the time we make it to the home stretch, she’s given up and is sitting quietly again.

This past week, Thessaly has made some new friends as she’s started daycare. So, for two days a week, she’s out from under the watchful eye of her father, and playing with 2 or 3 other youngsters just a few months older and younger than herself.

There were a few tears when I left her there, but they cleared up soon enough, and she settled in nicely to the new environment. And when Erin went to pick her up, there was a heartwarming display of excitement, and a repeat when she came home and saw me. But I think it’s going to work out very well. I get a few days a week where I can really put my head down and get some work done, and take some of the pressure off of the steadily shrinking windows of time when she’s napping.

It’s been so long since I’ve had a full day without interruption, it felt a little odd at first, but soon, I was ticking my way through the to-do list like I used to. It felt good. I’m going to chase this feeling.

Marked lack of comics in March

You may have noticed that things have been quiet on the comic front for the last while. Yeah, some of that was due to lack of time, but it was mostly due to illness (mine and Thessaly’s). I do have some more time during the week now, but that’s not going to directly translate into lots more comics in the near-near-term. While there may be a slow trickle of episodes starting up here soon, I’m actually working on the website redesign right now, with the intent to launch it with the start of Season 4. When I get enough of the site development behind me, I’ll start to divide my time more evenly between comics and site work.

What I’m watching…

John Adams pts 1 & 2

This is turning out to be an enjoyable HBO mini-series looking at the life of the first Vice-President of the United States. There aren’t many realistic portrayals of this particular time period that I know of, and the filmmakers seem to be doing it justice. The miniseries is based on the biography of John Adams written by David McCullogh.
