38. Hi(gh), Steve

Furthering the account of “the day the Paco returned”, we see Steve again and learn not really very much more about his condition this last while. For those of you who miss the antics of the tall and unhairnetted one, you’ll get satisfaction soon enough. In a few weeks, Steve will take his place once again at center stage.

Total Cost of Home Ownership
Ever have to buy something expensive when you weren’t expecting it? Ever have something expensive that you’ve been saving for only to have your dreams shattered when you had to buy something ELSE, something that is a necessity, not easily put off, something expensive? Not just expensive, but something that costs, to the dollar, the same as the item you were planning to buy sometime soon?

Yeah. Me too.

Mine was a furnace. (The furnace was the thing that I had to buy. Not the thing I was saving for. )

I keep going downstairs to look at the thing, hoping to see something cool, something redeeming of the expensive box of firemaking. And I keep getting disappointed.

Yeah, yeah, I know. It makes my house warm. I sat through two days of a cold house here. Trying to get work done in 55 degree rooms. So I appreciate the fact that it’s warm air blowing out of the vents instead of cold. I can flex my fingers again, I can get out of the shower without shivering for 20 minutes afterward.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t change the fact that I really don’t like it. I want to love the furnace. I really do. it’s smaller, it should save us money on our heating bills, it should last us a good 20 years with the proper maintenance.

But I still hate the thing.

Oh, and I’m feeling under the weather today. Must be from the sitting in too cold a house for too long.

Not a good week.
